Introduction

In the previous article, we examined a simple but often overlooked reality: hosting the World Cup does not necessarily make a country the biggest economic winner.

The tournament generates enormous wealth, but that wealth does not flow evenly across all participants. Some organisations capture a disproportionately large share of the value created by the event, while others bear much of the cost.

This raises a more interesting question.

If the host nation is not always the primary beneficiary, which organisations are?

To answer that question, it is useful to think about the World Cup not as a sporting competition but as a commercial ecosystem. Every ecosystem has key participants occupying different positions within the value chain. Some own the platform. Some monetise the audience. Others convert engagement into transactions.

The World Cup provides a particularly clear example of this structure.
